Holidays For Employees

Holidays are occasions wherein we pause from the routine to commune with God and fellow men. Holidays are usually associated with family and friends to share experiences and strengthen relationships. But as you go about your everyday life, there is no telling what will be the reason for you to have one particularly during the Christmas holidays. So how do you mark a holiday even if you don’t have any religious affiliation?

A holiday is basically a day set apart wherein normal activities, particularly work or business, including school are either suspended or completely reduced. In general, holidays are meant to let people celebrate or commemorate an occasion or tradition of significant cultural or religious meaning to them. Christmas is perhaps the most well-known holiday because of the commercialization it has undergone and also because of the extravagant preparations done by millions of people all over the world. Some other common holidays celebrated worldwide include Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Christmas, and Hanukkah, also known as the celebration of Chanukah. All these celebrate importance and uniqueness of different people.

Most of the holidays celebrate people’s love and affection towards each other and nature. This includes Diwali, which is the festival of lights. Diwali celebrations are celebrated across the globe starting from India in the month of November and finishing in the months of December. There are different ways to mark Diwali depending on where you live in India.

For instance, in northern India like Delhi, there are several festivities that happen before the main celebration which is Diwali. These festivals mostly focus on the characters and folklore of northern India such as the belief in reincarnation and Christmas. If you are thinking of having paid holidays to northern India, you can easily get them on the Festivals of India, which have been created to celebrate all the significant Holidays, birthdays and events of India.

The Indian government has also taken measures to make sure that people do not spend their money in unnecessary things during the holiday season. Holidays, especially federal holidays like the Republic Day, Christmas, Independence Day, Chanakya Yatra, Karthik Purnima and Diwali, must be treated as working holidays, as their earnings are earned through employment. In most states of the country, federal law does not allow workers to earn money during their holiday. Though the government has made arrangements for working women to receive overtime pay, the law does not allow overtime pay for women in manufacturing areas like garments and leather products. Overtime pay is also not allowed in the hospitality industry like hotels and restaurants.

So while you cannot take money for holidays, you can take money for overtime. Holidays for employees can also be termed as working time. There are certain employees who may work more than eight hours in a single day. This overtime amount is also termed as double-time pay. If the employee works more than eight hours in a single day, she will receive the same pay as her regular rate for that day, plus a bit more, as she will be paid for double-time. This kind of arrangement is allowed by the federal law in most states of the country.
